Certified Advanced Rolfer - Certified Aston-Patterner |
|
I have been Rolfing since 1989 and completed my Aston-Patterning certification in 1998. I am also a certified Rolfing Movement teacher. I graduated from massage school in Washington D.C. in 1975. At the time, my teacher was in the middle of his Rolfing training, so Rolfing had a major influence on my massage training. I taught massage and macrobiotics in Washington, D.C. until 1980, when I moved to Florida where I had a massage & Conscious Breathing practice for eight years. In 1988 and 1989 I attended the Rolf Institute in Boulder, Colorado, and then I established my Rolfing practice in the Palm Beach area of Florida. I've been in Seattle since 1996. In 1993 I did six weeks of advanced training with the Guild for Structural Integration and in 1994 I did six weeks of advanced training with the Rolf Institute. I have also completed the Aston-Patterning Advanced Training and the Aston-Patterning Fitness Training. I've been doing yoga for thirty years and have taken various teacher trainings; including one with Ana Forrest in 2000 and another with Donna Farhi in 2004. I've been studying Continuum movement with Emilie Conrad and Susan Harper since 1988. And I've recently completed a three-year training in Peter Levine's Somatic Experiencing which works with healing the nervous system from trauma by increasing awareness of physical sensations. I continue to study Rolfing and Aston-Patterning with various teachers. Rolfing relieved me of chronic back, neck and head pain and helped alleviate knee problems that I had developed from running. Rolfing also helped me become more extroverted. I like to say that it uncurled me from the fetal position. I still get Rolfed fairly often so that I can continue to improve my physical alignment, which for me translates to better mental and spiritual alignment. Experiencing the "Rolf Line" can be an almost mystical experience. When you are aligned with the pulse of gravity, you are aligned with the pulse of nature. Aston-Patterning has taught me how to move without hurting myself and how to feel and use my relationship with gravity. It has helped me understand the underlying simple mechanics of all movements which helps turn daily activities into an effortless spiral dance. Rolfing and Aston-Patterning keep me feeling connected to the field of gravity in which we live and I hope to convey that sense of interrelatedness to my clients. I am grateful to my Rolfing teachers and to Judith Aston for helping me so much personally and for teaching me this wonderful work. |
